We noticed more birds in the woods walking to the tip this morning...
We expected another mega insane day with a big reverse migration to start...
Turns out that there were more birds in the woods because there was less flying overhead...
Still a sweet morning! Just not as much as the past few days of birding.
Boom
Some notables from today:
2 Pine Siskins
1 Purple Finch (both reversing)
"Yellow" Palm Warbler (reversed)
2 Little Gulls
4 Willets (at tip all morning)
1 Golden-winged Warbler (adult male - 3rd in less than 24 hours)
2 Hooded Warblers (2 males chased each other - 4+ in 24 hours)
FOY's included Magnolia, Parula and BT Blue Warbl for me!
Sa-weet!
My Dad and I actually took a few hours off in the afternoon to "catch up" on some R&R, eating food (I hardly ate anything in my excitement from yesterday), downloading photos etc...
Around 5pm we drove towards Holiday Beach and checked several spots along the way. Had my FOY Nighthawk, Green Heron etc but not a whole lot to report... Lots of herons/egrets/fowl/coots etc and we checked some awesome spots for passerines and came up empty. But yeah - worth the look as a rarity hunter and I'm sure we'll do it again before tooo long.
Tomorrow is another day! Winds are a bit strong, but goodies abound...
