Dead Fish ID

I sent these photos to some fish-experts that I'm lucky to work with, but rather than give them time to properly respond - I'm also posting them here... Partially because I'm really interested to see what species this dead thing is (which is hopefully possible to determine from the photos!)

It was big.. And taken at the tip of Point Pelee earlier this week... Watch this space!

Any takers??

  1. Certainly a Catastomid. White Sucker? River Redhorse? Photographer (who usually does a much better job) should have taken an out-of-water photo showing the dorsal fin extended. A dissection showing the pharyngeal teeth would have also helped. The OFRC rejects this submission.

    1. haha - thanks Michael... I was quite surprised at how large it was! I do not have any extensive experience with fish mind you, but I never knew the "suckers" could get so big. Always something new to see out there :)

    2. I also think a taste-test might have helped confirm the ID.
