Pessimists: more realistic than optimists

Funny story:

My Dad and I decided to try and do the Hamilton CBC on Dec 26 (I never do CBC's) - but with a twist. We were going to patrol the far east end of the study area, out in Lake Ontario - from our Zodiac:

And wouldn't you know it, 3km offshore, trying to throw bread to gulls in pretty strong offshore winds, we discover a hole in the boat. The above photo taken just after we zoomed back in to shore and watched one of the side pontoons deflate. Fun for the whole family!

We didn't even make notes of the birds we had, and went back to my parents place to count up a handful of feeder birds.

--- there is also a record from Lake MI (in Illinois) in the fall, so here's another species we need to keep firmly on the radar

Some fun blog stats recently:

This is my 300th post to the blog! Where did my life go?

Last month was the highest visited ever for the blog, with just over 5600 views. It's nice to know that someone is reading this mess ;) Thanks very much!
