Some critter-visions of Rainy River

More random photos... As with yesterday, taken with a 100mm macro lens, (so they stink) - but still a number of things one rarely gets the chance to see in Ontario...

Magpie's everywhere!

I had Sharp-tailed Grouse at 5 locations...

I also saw many things I didn't photograph like LeConte's Sparrow, Clay-coloured Sparrow, Sedge Wrens (etc) everywhere

Brewer's Blackbirds

Paintbrush! Any botanists in the house?

I had 250-300+ Pelicans without really trying... Lake of the Woods looks like a nutty place to explore! Wish I had a boat....

Swarms!

I pulled this Clubtail sp. out of the grill of my truck. I can only imagine it is some sort of Rainy-River specialty, but I have yet to look it up. When (if) I do, I'll post it on the blog! Unless someone else knows now?!

Overall a fun day! Sure doesn't "feel" like Ontario when you're out there, but the maps say otherwise...
