One knot = roughly 1.852 kmh --- so each day is a rough forecast of 30 gusting to 50kmh NE winds! The stars are lining up, as our north winds are feeding a sharp front like feature (along with the distant leftovers of tropical storm Lee, far to the south)...
For sure something to keep an eye on.. It was several days of east winds that brought us the Manx Shearwater to Hamilton in 2006...
Manx Shear - Hamilton, Sep 1, 2006
As stated above, these things are subject to change, so keep an eye on the current weather forecasts: Mornings and evenings are the best, but watching as long as possible will result in more sightings.

Lots to expect this time of year as well. Adult Jaegers of all three species are possible, along with the first Sabine's Gulls. If this pattern holds, we should get some Kittiwakes as well.
Northerly winds down this way also. Could be good all week!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you've already had a great start Blake!
ReplyDelete(Check out Blake's Blog for todays sightings from Lake Huron), if you haven't already seen it on ontbirds etc. !

My Dad also reminded me I should have posted a link to the grimsby weather buoy:

It provides pretty recent updates (1-2 hours) of the "current" wind and wave conditions out on the lake (about 10km offshore grimsby?)
